The trail was overgrown; unfortunately with poison oak, thistles, and stinging nettles at every step. It was impossible to get into a comfortable groove. At points, we couldn't even tell which way to go.

The Great Wall Marathon is home to 5,134 stairs of varying sizes. The temperatures soar, the rocks on the wall bake, and your quads shake at the mercy of squatting down thigh-high stairs. It sounded unforgettable.
